Phonics: We use 'Letters and Sounds' which is a phonics resource published by the Department for Education and Skills in 2007. It aims to build children's speaking and listening skills in their own right as well as to prepare children for learning to read by developing their phonic knowledge and skills. It sets out a detailed and systematic programme for teaching phonic skills for children starting by the age of five, with the aim of them becoming fluent readers by age seven.

To support children further, Jolly Phonics is used in Early Years and Read Write Inc. in Years 1 to 4.

At the end of Y1 children complete a phonics screening check. Please see the attached phonics leaflet below for more information.

Reading: A combination of 'Oxford Reading Tree', 'Songbirds Phonics' by Julia Donaldson and 'Project X' reading scheme are used to teach the children to read.

Personal Skills (PSHCERE) is concerned with qualities and attitudes, knowledge and understanding and abilities and skills in relation to oneself and others. As such it is an integral part of all aspects of school life, inside and outside the classroom.
