Government updates on GCSE exams and grades:
The school is now open to vulnerable pupils and children of key workers only. This should still be as a last resort. If you are able to keep your child at home, then please do so.
Closure of educational settings - information for parents and carers:
If you need to contact us:
- Whilst school is open (8.15am-3.15pm weekdays), the normal phone will be answered 01484 426666.
- Alternatively, and out of hours, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org - this email box is monitored daily.
- Follow our Twitter page @almondburycs_ to keep updated with upcoming news and events.
The school will be open to provide childcare Monday to Friday on both weeks of the Easter holidays for vulnerable pupils and children of key workers only. We ask that wherever possible children are kept at home and that they are only sent in as a last resort.
Free School Meals
Children eligible for free school meals can benefit from a term time national voucher scheme whilst they stay at home.
Please can you make sure that school has your most up to date email address and mobile number so that we can include you in this national offer.
The scheme will allow schools to provide every eligible child with a weekly shopping voucher worth £15 to spend at supermarkets while schools are closed due to coronavirus. The voucher can be sent electronically, or as a gift card for those without Internet.
Full details of this scheme can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-free-school-meals-guidance
If you receive an email stating the following ‘As schools will be closing, if you’re entitled to free school meals, please send your bank details and we’ll make sure you’re supported’, we can confirm that this is a scam email and is not official.
We wanted you to know that we are working very hard to get the term time FSM national voucher scheme up and running. All being well this will be in place after the Easter holidays.
For the period of the 2 week Easter holiday, the Local Authority has agreed to fund vouchers to the equivalent of £15 per week per child. We hope to issue these evouchers early next week.
Please note: When sending emails and or texts there are several families/parents who are highlighted that we don't have up to date details, even though this has been requested.
Given the amount of information going out at the moment it is vitally important that we are able to contact you.
Emails and text messages have been sent out today so if you haven't heard from us by either method then please let us know your email address and mobile phone number by emailing email@example.com or calling school early next week.
We can then distribute the codes when they are available and keep in touch with other matters.

A message from our Careers Adviser, Debra Casson:
The school may be closed, but staff are still working and available to contact. No matter what year your son/daughter is in there is something you can be thinking about in terms of their future:
A main focus for me is the transition of your son or daughter from Almondbury Community School to their preferred choice of either sixth form, college or apprenticeship. Those students that were interviewed and offered a place by Greenhead College should accept their offer by 23rd March and Huddersfield New College by 24th April. Kirklees College have cancelled their interviews that were due to take place next week but have told us they will endeavour to do most interviews over the phone. I have links with the colleges/6th forms and I will receive updates on their processes for recruitment. For example, if interviews need rearranging I will be able to help, and I will keep you as informed as possible.
If students are seeking an Apprenticeship I will continue to help them search and apply for vacancies.
Year 10 and 9
My intention is to call all the year 9 and 10 pupils individually to discuss how they can plan for the decisions that they have to make in year 11 and to explain the various options after Year 11 to them so that they can begin to make plans, and to research their career ideas and to give them, and you as parents, the opportunity to ask questions.
Years 7 & 8
You could spend some time thinking about what you are good at and what you enjoy and then how that can link to Jobs and Careers. We’ve listed some websites and career tools for you to look at.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me by email or mobile –
Debra Casson/Careers Adviser
The DfE have been made aware that parents are receiving an email saying ‘As schools will be closing, if you’re entitled to free school meals, please send your bank details and we’ll make sure you’re supported’. This is a scam, please do not give your details.
