Sports Hall Athletics Competitions
It is with tremendous pride that I write this review of Almondbury Community School's Sports Hall Athletics Teams
It is the first time that an ACS Year 6 Sports Hall Athletics team have made it to round two of this competition. The competition was strong so at best we were going to get fourth place and that would take some personal best performances and the team really pulling together. We had a shaky start whilst the nerves settled but confidence grew with every activity. Our team supported each other brilliantly and pushed themselves hard throughout the competition especially in the final two events of the night. The girls 4 X 1 team had a very close race with Almondbury fighting until the end to secure a fantastic second place from being in the third place position. This inspired the boys 4 X 1 team who used the same determination to battle until the end. They pushed harder than the other teams to secure an outstanding FIRST place from being in the second place position at the final turning board. Overall we achieved an AMAZING third place out of five teams, which just goes to show what can happen when people believe in themselves.
Our Year 7 students attended their Sports Hall Athletics competition at Newsome High School on Monday 16th January 2017. The students have trained incredibly hard in lessons, with everyone working on achieving personal best performances. From this, fifteen students were chosen to go forward and represent ACS having achieved a place on the sports hall athletics team. There were some personal best performances on the night, included 1st place in boys' shot putt and =1st place in boys' long jump. The boys' team have been successful in achieving a place at the Kirklees Final on Tuesday 7th February, a fantastic achievement, well done!
Our year 8 team went to their competition on Monday 23rd January. The girls' and boys' teams have some experience from competing in this competition in years 6 and 7 but were still very nervous prior to this event. We had some great performances on the night and all students demonstrated a great deal of resilience and determination to compete to the best of their abilities. Our next athletics competitions take place after Easter and will be the Super 8's athletics competition and the Kirklees Schools' Athletics Championships
