Girls' Rugby

On Friday 29th April, our Year 7, 8 and 9 Girls’ Rugby team went to the biggest event of their season which was the Huddersfield Giants Playtouch competition at The Zone and the John Smith’s Stadium.

They were accompanied by assistant coaches Jamie-Leigh Scott and Aimee Jennings who have worked incredibly hard alongside Mrs Ketteringham and Miss Heslop to get the girls ready.

Over the season, the girls have continued to demonstrate an outstanding work ethic and team commitment. We had girls who were nervous about playing the competition and almost let fear get the better of them but, as our Almondbury students are, they were resilient and demonstrated great mental toughness by going to the event and competing.

The progress that the girls have made over the season, but also from the first game of the competition to the last was clear for all to see. Their confidence and commitment to work for each other led to some outstanding team and individual performances and most definitely personal bests. As always, ours students’ behaviour was immaculate and the girls were fantastic ambassadors for our school and girls in sport.

Here are a group of girls who will win tournaments at local and regional level if they continue to train hard together and, who knows, maybe a future England Lioness!

Well done girls, we are so proud of you all
