Yr 6 Moving Toys

Year 6 have been learning all about circuits and electricity as part of their science topic. They were then challenged to use their new found knowledge and apply it to power various moving toys. The first task was to build a toy using a kit following instructions. Once this was completed they had a variety of materials available such as paper plates, pipe cleaners, cotton bobbins, straws, rubber bands, batteries and switches to  make a fairground ride. Ethan explained, “We worked in groups to design and make our fairground rides.” Marli said, “We were also set the challenge of working with people we hadn’t worked with before, which was definitely a great experience.” She added, “We all had our moments with the battery holders and circuits. It was very fiddly and quite frustrating at times. Some rubber bands were too thick and some kept breaking” Gemma agreed, “ We had to be quite creative to make it look good and to make it work.” Thomas concluded, “ It was interesting. I learnt some new things by working out problems.”

They all agreed that one of the main things that was needed for this activity was teamwork.
